Vaccinations Tanzania
Mandatory vaccinations are NOT required for safaris in Tanzania. Hepatitis, typhus and malaria prophylaxis are recommended. Consult your doctor if necessary. We recommend using insect and mosquito repellent to avoid insect and mosquito bites. There are not many mosquitoes, especially during the dry season, and the probability of contracting diseases is really low, but it is good to be cautious and avoid any risk. Vaccination for yellow fever is not compulsory, except for those coming from endemic areas, such as Kenya, for which it will be compulsory.
Passports and visas required for Tanzania
Foreigners entering Tanzania must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months. The passport must be presented with an ordinary visa to an immigration officer at any point of entry. The “ordinary visa” which is normally required for sightseeing tours, can be requested, before leaving, in the country of origin at the Tanzanian Embassy, or directly upon arrival in Tanzania, at a checkpoint, after filling out a form, where you are required, among other things, flight details, passport number and details and paying USD 50. You don’t need to bring photos for this visa. The visa can also be applied online at the following link: https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa/
Climate and temperatures
Tanzania has a tropical climate. In the highlands temperatures vary between 10 and 20°C during the cold and hot seasons respectively. The rest of the country has temperatures that rarely fall below 20°C. The hottest period is from November to February (25-31°C), while the coldest period occurs between May and August (15-20°C). The climate is cool in the high mountain regions. In the northern part of Tanzania and on the northern coast, there are two rainy seasons, respectively October-December (called small rains or Vuli) and March-June (long rainy season). During the long rainy season the land is greener and the concentration of the animals reaches its peak, but you only need to know in advance that you can have long rainy moments during the day.
What to bring for safari
We advise you to bring with you a backpack with:
-a camera;
-a small pair of binoculars;
-a sweatshirt;
-an anorak to protect yourself from the cold;
-a k-way to protect yourself from dust and rain;
-a scarf;
-sunscreen;
-a cocoa butter;
-a sun hat;
-wet wipes and liquid repellent (we recommend Jungle Formula or Pyramid Trek and BioKill Organic Insecticide to be sprayed in your suitcase before arriving on safari);
-a universal adapter model UK.
In the suitcase, preferably a soft duffel bag as it will always be with you in the boot of the jeep, we will bring shoes, clothes, personal hygiene products, basic medicines for each trip and whatever else you need. We advise you to bring practical garments, possibly cotton and breathable.
During the days in the Savannah we will catch wind and swallow a lot of dust, so the advice is to opt for light-colored clothing such as: long cotton pants, vests or sleeveless T-shirts, a sweatshirt and an anorak for the temperature range, as early in the morning (when you leave for the Safari) and the afternoon after sunset temperatures can be cold. All you need are sneakers that you often have to take off to get on the seats of the jeep and enjoy the spectacle offered by the animals you will encounter.
